DEBATE Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling make England’s best XI since 2000 after talkSPORT’s Jason Cundy said he would NOT include David Beckham
"[David] Beckham was a fantastic footballer for England, but he was not a world-class player, and he does not belong in England's best XI ever, at least not in my opinion."
Jason Cundy of talkSPORT made this daring comment while discussing the former Manchester United and Real Madrid player's international career.
After much argument and discussion, talkSPORT.com has decided to answer that question by selecting the finest England XI since 2000. Jason, turn aside immediately...
Jordan Pickford is the goalkeeper.
Since the turn of the century, England has had little luck with goalkeepers, with David Seaman being lobbed by Ronaldinho in the 2002 World Cup and the ball bobbling past Rob Green against the USA eight years later.
The goalkeeper who has had the most success while wearing the jersey.
Ashley Cole, John Terry, Rio Ferdinand, and Gary Neville are the defenders.
With these four in defense, it's difficult to imagine England conceding a single goal.
This foursome, with their combination of speed, strength, and leadership, are among the Three Lions' greatest ever players, much alone defenders.
It's difficult to argue that these four don't deserve a spot in an England XI after appearing in several World Cups and European Championships, despite never leading England to a trophy.
Raheem Sterling, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, and David Beckham for the midfield.
We would have Beckham in our team if Cundy didn't have him. 'Golden Balls' would be out on the right side of the field, delivering lovely cross after delightful cross into the attacking third.
And, certainly, Gerrard and Lampard are legendary for their inability to play togethe.
ATTACK []> Rooney and Harry Kane
Rooney and Kane, who will soon be No. 1 and No. 2 on England's all-time scoring rankings, have a combined total of 101 goals for their country.
Despite his reservations about having Beckham on his squad, Cundy speculated on what may happen if he did.
