If reports are true, Chelsea could well be keeping £24m man at the Bridge for another year - TCC View

Chelsea’s priority list is pretty clear at the moment.

Number one: announce a new owner.

Number two: get the club’s finances in order.

Number three: start redevelopment of Stamford Bridge.

Everything underneath that is pretty secondary at the moment.

This includes signing players, which understandably comes quite high on the agenda for many fans.

What will Chelsea be doing in the transfer market?

After seeing Romelu Lukaku and Saul Niguez struggle to set South West London alight, they will be hoping for a much healthier transfer window in the summer.

Of course, until Roman Abramovich’s successor is officially confirmed, the wishes of supporters can only remain wishes rather than become reality.

However, this reportedly hasn’t stopped the Chelsea board from formulating a few names they might go after once the money begins to flow again.

According to Goal, Jules Kounde is still a major target, following last year’s failed attempt at swiping him from Sevilla.

West Ham United’s Declan Rice and Aurelien Tchouameni of Monaco are also apparently ‘on the agenda’.

Recently, the Benfica striker Darwin Nunez has been linked with a move to the current European champions.

On this basis, it is evident which areas of Thomas Tuchel’s squad the chain of command wants revamping: defence, central midfield and up front.

Therefore, it comes as something of a surprise that a new full-back hasn’t been mentioned.

After all, the lack of cover in this particular position had Chelsea panicking in the January window, to the extent they recalled Kenedy and attempted to do the same with Emerson Palmieri.

Alonsgo or Alonstay?

Injuries to Ben Chilwell and Reece James caused this fluster, one Tuchel will surely not want to suffer again next season.

Rush the England international back too early, and the consequences could be severe.

However, the fact there hasn’t yet been any indication another left-back will land at Cobham in the next few months implies Tuchel is happy with his current crop.

Which suggests Marcos Alonso will represent Chelsea for at least another term.

The 31-year-old’s contract expires next June and could well find himself in the same boat as Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta before too long.

But it appears the £24m (Sky Sports) defender will be around for one more campaign.
